About Us
South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church Preschool began in 1993 as a part time program and as a ministry of the church. Our hours are 9:00am-12:45pm. We are proud of our facility and our commitment to the care and nurture of every child that comes through our doors. We welcome families of all faiths and cultures and invite families to share their own special holidays with us.
Every class at our preschool has two teachers to allow for low teacher to student ratios and our staff is extremely experienced. We have exceptionally low teacher turnover at our school, with the average tenure in the program being over 8 years. A typical day includes both small group activities and circle time, activities that promote language development and number awareness, opportunities to explore using the senses, art and creativity, singing, story time and outside play. We also have Chapel Time over in the church building with our Director of Spiritual Formation. The daily schedule for each class is posted in the classroom.
A Typical Schedule:
09:00 – 09:15 Carpool Drop-off
09:15 – 10:20 Centers/ includes a teacher station (art/writing)

We encourage active play and "messy" art, so we ask that you send your child to school in washable and comfortable play clothes and closed-toe shoes to play safely on our playground. A calendar with specific dates will be given to each family with their classroom assignment packet.
We offer two summer camps for our preschoolers during the first two weeks of June. The cost of these camps is not included in the regular school year tuition and is paid at the time of camp registration.

Transitioning into the Preschool Year
In early August you will receive an invitation to meet teachers before school starts. This is a great opportunity for you to share information with your child's teacher, to ask questions about the upcoming school year, and for children to meet some new friends.
Our younger classes begin the year with shortened days:
-
2s begin the year with two 2-hour days.
-
3s begin with one 2-hour day.
4s-5s begin with a regular 9:00-12:45 day.
During the first two weeks of school, we have a few extra staff on hand to help those for whom this is their first venture into a partial day away from parents.
