Music
There has been plenty of research to show the importance of music for children of all ages. Apart from helping engage both sides of the brain, music is important in the development of language and reasoning, co-ordination, memorization and auditory skills. It is also just plain fun! We are excited to have Ms Kim provide music and movement opportunities monthly for every class in our program.
Chapel Time
Rebecca Guzman, our Director of Spiritual Formation, leads Chapel Time for our children once a month. She incorporates Bible stories and other stories with themes that include friendship, loyalty, care for creation, welcoming, learning, sharing, trust, hope and courage. We are excited to share time with her in the Chapel!
If you have questions for Rebecca, you can reach her at rebecca@smpchome.org or call 704-544-0404, ext.117.
Playground & Building Upkeep
We are grateful to the church for our cherished classrooms and to all of the families that helped build our wonderful playground. Our job now is to maintain these treasures for use today and for years to come.
Here are some ways you can help:.
-
Buy a SMPC car magnet ($5.00)
-
Register your phone number at Harris Teeter.
(Our school code is 4902.) -
Participate in a fundraiser: Trunk or TReat, School Photos, Square 1 Art, Pizza & PJs Day, Brixx Night Out, Hop-A-Thon
Library & Storytellers
We have an on-site library that the children and teachers love. It is filled with board and picture books, music instruments, and lots of puppets. Teachers can use these items in class or take their children to visit the library.
In addition to our own library, we have monthly visits from the storytellers from the Charlotte Meklenburg Library. They share new and classic books and well as fun seasonal poetry and songs.
Special Events
Throughout the year we also weave in a variety of special events that enrich our program and foster community. Some of those include: a Dental Education Program, Children's Theater of Charlotte, Costume Parade Day, and our Christmas Program.
Screenings
We want every child at SMPCP to gain a sense of self- confidence and self-compitence. Therefore as part of our year we offer specific optional developmental screeenings, on-site at school. This year we will make available:
-
Speech Screening in October
-
OT Screening in November
-
Eye Screening in February
